More Details on State Championship
If your STLP school is planning on attending State Championship this information may help in your decision planning.
Apply to attend by Feb. 15.
Engineers: Sixteen highly technical students have been invited from Fall Showcase. At State, arrive by 9:30 AM to help set up technical needs
Projects: 510 projects are invited to State from 809 Fall Showcase projects. Students will present the invited showcase project for judges in these categories: Community Service, Instruction, Technical Expertise. Set up by your judging time. Times and table numbers will be sent soon.
When registeingr online for State Championship, there is no place to reenter the showcase title. Elaine has the showcase title and information from Fall. Please just count the total showcase students in your grand total when you register. Every school attending with a project must register online for state.
Email Elaine for INTERNET to secure a password before arriving. Do not ask for an account unless you really need it. Have a back up plan.
Email Elaine by MARCH 1, an image of each invited project; no names on the image; image will be included in the showcase slideshow
At State
Tables are usually 4-6-8 feet in length. The large long halls will be divided by grade levels of elementary, middle and high. We never know what size table will be set in which section.
Email Elaine if you have less than 4 in your showcase to more accurately count the ribbons and save time on site.
Upon arrival on site, check in by the mini stage area and pick up ribbons for each of your showcase projects.
Technical support is located in the center of the long halls. The STLP engineers do not bring any equipment to support what you forget.
SERIOUS MATTER: Last year we had a network that others could see when they were looking for the Rupp network. Seeing the network was not the issue, the name of the network was unacceptable. Please make sure your students are not broadcasting a name that is inappropraite. We will question any networks on site that can be seen by others.
Projects have moved from regional showcase to State for two rounds of final judging.
The first judging round is Level 2. After Level 2 judging ends, Elaine will announce the tables that move from Level 2 to Level 3. Be quiet and ready to listen for a Table Number. Turn off all sound from your table. The table number is on the sign that was on your table when you arrived. The same sheet that you must place over your decorated table that allows judges to find your project.
There will be a time for the tables to break down and depart before Level 3 judging begins.
Level 2 judging will use the same rubric and 10 minutes for judges to review your project with students. This is much like Fall Showcase. A set of judges come once to your table.
Level 3 will be 5 minutes and the rubric will focus on impact with judges asking questions. Students should not expect to give a formal presentation like in level 2. The judges will be asking questions and the students should draw upon what they have done in the project to answer. Judges may return to your table more than once.

Awards at State
Program starts about 6:00- 9:00 PM. Elaine calls the category from the stage and asks students to go to the back of the arena to walk through the inner hall before arriving on stage
Do not ask to have an award early; if someone is picking up an award for a student that must leave, come down for the category in which the absent student won will make it easier; the picking up student needs to know the category in which the departed student won
When signing students up for the competitions online, double check to make sure the names are spelled correctly; what is submitted is what we use in category lists, the PowerPoint presentations and the “onstage book”
Wall of Winners
Schools need to check the Wall. Students that receive first or second place will be recognized on stage during awards; we will post information as soon as each category lead brings the place winners to the Wall
