The KDE Educational Interpreter Guidelines document is a product of KDE’s Office of Special Instructional Services that is a resource to local school districts. Its purpose is to explain both the administrative processes and classroom recommendations for working with interpreters. Those who currently employ interpreters as well as those who are in need of these service providers will find the necessary information in a user-friendly question and answer format. If you have additional questions, please contact KDE’s Interpreter Consultant.
The Newsletter for Educational Interpreters is distributed to educational interpreters and stakeholder agencies whose mission is to increase the number of qualified interpreters to meet the needs of clients, both students and adults, in Kentucky. It serves to keep communication and collaboration among interpreters practicing within the state and agencies in order to support these efforts that bolster student success. Here you will find the most recent issue of the newsletter that is published on a quarterly basis. The most recent issue may be downloaded below. Often times there is great interest from people in the community who would like to join in the interpreting profession in order to fill the continual need for increased numbers of qualified service providers. In order to become an interpreter there are several steps one must take to become licensed per Kentucky statute and therefore be able to practice in all settings, including classrooms, within the state. The document below, How to Get Started Interpreting, serves to guide these people in moving through the process of meeting the requirements necessary to becoming qualified.
