Tech Tip 43 - Five Quick Tips

1. You can switch from one open program to the next by pressing Alt+Tab (Windows) or Command+Tab (Mac).

2. You don’t have to type “http://www” into your Web browser. Just type the remainder: “nytimes.com” or “cnn.com,” for example. (In the Safari browser, you can even leave off the “.com” part.)

3. If you like to see the full Web address in the address bar, you can type a domain name such as CNN or Bing in the address bar and then press Ctrl+Enter one time. This one command will automatically put the “www.” in front of the name you typed in the address bar, the “.com” behind it and then the browser will automatically begin to load the desired page.

4. When you’re filling in the boxes on a Web page (such as city, state, zip code), you can press the Tab key to jump from box to box, rather than clicking. Add the Shift key to jump through the boxes backwards.

5. You can open the Start menu by tapping the key with the Windows logo on it.
