Keeping Effective Educators

There are proven development strategies, including mentors, professional development, and team building that can help teachers feel a sense of belonging and pride in their school, which often assist in keeping effective educators.

 

A recent case study of educators identified the following factors that encourage effective teachers to stay: a sense of efficacy, that their efforts were making a difference for their students; a sense of professional community at their school; and a strong and supportive principal along with district administrative support.

 

According to the Center for Teaching Quality, teacher leadership is a critical component of effective teaching and school success. Expanding leadership roles and advancement opportunities for teachers may be an excellent and cost-effective strategy for retaining the most effective teachers.

 

Transformational school and district leaders who seek out and support the partnership of teacher leaders lay the groundwork for keeping effective educators from quitting the classroom.
