Teach For America is a national nonprofit that recruits, trains and supports outstanding recent college graduates and young professionals who commit to teach for two years in urban and rural public schools and become lifelong leaders in expanding educational opportunity. In Teach For America’s charter year in Kentucky, 30 corps members will enter classrooms in the Appalachia region to work alongside efforts already underway to ensure educational excellence and equity. Teach For America corps members will apply for open positions in high-need schools and subjects in the Whitley, Floyd, Knox, and Martin county school districts, and the organization will open a central office in Hazard. Nationally, 9,000 corps members will teach in 43 regions across the country, while nearly 24,000 Teach For America alumni continue working for the fundamental changes necessary to ensure all students have the educational opportunities they deserve.
