Alternative Certification Routes

The Education Professional Standards Board (EPSB) is the state agency that establishes standards and procedures for the alternative route options.

Alternative Routes to Certification EPSB provides technical assistance to qualifying individuals who have potential as educators in Kentucky schools, to local boards of education, and to institutions of higher education in implementing these options.

Out of state applicants must have completed a state approved teacher preparation program at a regionally accredited educator preparation institution or a state-approved alternative training program. In addition, candidates must comply with the state ancillary requirements such as GPA, testing and internship.

Green River Regional Educational Cooperative (GRREC)

The Green River Regional Educational Cooperative's (GRREC) Transition To Teaching (TTT) grant includes math, science, foreign language, other content areas as well as certification in Moderate/Severe Disability (MSD) and Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education (preschool, IECE).  GRREC partners with Western Ketnucky University, to serve 20 targeted school districts via the TTT grant.  Candidates can be mid-career professionals with a Bachelor degree in a high-need area; paraprofessionals with life experience with special needs students or in preschool and recent college graduates.
